Tradition and Value
Shalom! Hello! My name is Sheri. Let me tell you a bit about myself. When I was a girl I learned to bead on a loom. I'd make headbands, belts, and bracelets. I loved to make things! I was always making crafts. The hobby store was my favorite place in the world! I later moved on to bracelets and necklaces using freshwater pearls, semi-precious stones, and gems, when I could. When I was 15, I worked in a clothing store and loved to sell jewelry to "accessorize". The summer before College, I sold costume jewelry like it was "Tupperware", at parties, it was so much fun. The following year I studied and earned my Gemology Certificate and became a "Diamond Consultant" at Service Merchandise. For the following 2 years during school and the summers, I worked in the Jeweler's Exchange Building in Boston. Later, I co-owned a company there, for 15 years, a business my children now own.
Earlier this year, when Russia invaded Ukraine, as a Ukrainian Jew and a former jewelry designer, I wanted to make something different from a flag that could help raise money for the people there. I bought some Royal Blue and Yellow Agate Striped Beads and made simple bracelets and sold them to make money for the refugees. I still sell a bracelet, based on that one, with a few adjustments. A friend asked if I could make him one just like it with Israeli colors, and Judaic Gems was born.
I love working with my hands, making something new out of something else! Whether it was my award-winning Island Breeze Soups, writing, sketching, or making something with my kids or students at Hebrew School, shaping and designing something is the best feeling in the world! I hope you enjoy my creations where I take traditional Jewish symbols and mix them with my own fun and unique concepts.
